The competition heats up
As I expected, the April optimists never had a fighting chance in Ice Out 2008.
The odds are looking much better for May place-holders, however. After a stretch of warm weather and a couple of rainy days, the front yard looks like this:
I have a feeling that the competition is about to get interesting...
Darn! No way is that going to last another 20 days.
(I picked May 20 because that's supposedly our last frost date, when it's supposedly safe to plant tomatoes. I say "supposedly" a lot because it's going to snow here tonight and tomorrow. Though it's 80 today.)
Fear not, Kitt! It actually snowed here today as well. Nothing accumulated, but there were flurries in the air for about an hour. Truly - ANYTHING could happen between now and May 20.
Come on, lucky thirteen! Actually, I was basing my estimate on our snow. Which was a bad idea. Why? Because every few days, it goes from "ohmigosh it's almost gone" to "we're having a snowstorm and it's eight inches deep." That wasn't an exaggeration. EVERY FEW DAYS. EIGHT INCHES. Hopefully it's finally done.
I don't even remember which day I picked, but I'm sending loads of "it's time for spring already dammit" vibes your way. Looks like you could use them.

Woo-hoo! It's getting closer!
Wow! I now have mud, mud, and more mud. Every time the yard seems to start drying up a bit, we get rain. Or like last weekend, snow.
While I am happy for you that it is quickly leaving - I am not holding out much hope that it will be gone for May 2.
