Almost famous

Do you happen to read Country Weekly magazine?

If you do, you might want to flip to page 58 of the November 19 issue, which is currently on newsstands. On the bottom of the page, in the section titled "What's Online?" you'll find two pictures of Dierks Bentley - one showing him with long hair, the other with short hair. Next to that , you'll find a blurb written by Music Editor Chris Neal, which reads:

Dierks Reaches Out

The mother of an autistic child recently posted an open letter to Dierks Bentley on her blog, momnos.blogspot.com. She recounted how her son, Bud, was confused by the fact that Dierks has long hair in some of his videos and short hair in others. Dierks' wife, Cassidy, read the post and e-mailed her - and then Dierks himself sent Bud a package including a one-page handwritten letter explaining how he got his hair cut a year ago. The mother reports that Bud is now comfortable with seeing both the long- and short-haired Dierks. "I believe that The Dierks Bentley Hair Crisis of 2007 is officially over," she writes.
Wild.

Initially, I was thinking that as an homage to Country Weekly - and as a tip of the Stetson to anyone who might surf over to my blog after reading the article - I should use a country music reference for the title of this post. I considered using Miranda Lambert's "Famous in a Small Town," but then it dawned on me that I'm not sure you can consider yourself "famous" if most people don't know your real name. And, certainly, few people in my small town would connect this particular blurb to me.

But, still and all, it is pretty cool, don't you think?

How cool of Dierks and his wife to respond to you and Bud. I don't listen to country music so I'd never heard of them before, but they surely sound like cool people.

As for the haircut, I can understand why Bud was so confused. Dierks looked totally different in each hairstyle. I think he looks much hotter with short hair... Although the blond curls were kinda of cute and romantic. Let's just put it this way: Cassidy is a lucky girl.

very cool!! I'll have to tell my country lover (Bubba)! I'm finally figuring out that the songs he likes are what I imagine what his body rhythm feels like when his "engine is just right." OFF TOPIC: Your Ipod posts intrigue me as well... is there such a player that can withstand abuse from an impulsive, often explosive little boy? After he put the portable DVD player in the bathtub along with his bath toys 1 week after we got it, I'm leary of spending money on portable electronic devices!

Very cool!

But I have to add that in my world, you guys made Dierks Bentley famous. I have to admit that I don't follow country music. But I do religiously read your blog and have followed the Hair Crisis and the amazing responses from Dierks and Cassidy.

So several weeks ago I was driving and saw a billboard for Dierks Bentley. He was coming to a local venue. I said to myself, "Hey! That is Bud's Guy!" See, without Bud and MOM-NOS, I probably wouldn't have even known who he was! And now I know that Dierks Bentley is an amazing singer AND a top notch human being!

Fabulous. I will forever love Dierks Bentley for the way he treated you and Bud.

Count me in as another person who is fairly ignorant about country music but now adores Dierks. I was at a horseback riding b-day party last weekend with my son, and thanks to your blog, I recognized the music (Dierks, of course) being played near the stables.

Ange - there are some protective boxes for iPods that you can buy that will protect them from damage and wet:

I am a motorcyclist, and a lot of bikers use these boxes to protect their ipods from the elements and damage. Good luck.

I bought my first Dierks CD because of you guys. I love finding out that someone is as good a person as you think they should be.

That's awesome about the article. You're famous! At least anonymously. :)

Holy cow, that is SO COOL!

We, too, now love Dierks thanks to your blog. I am not a lover of country music but me and Pete are way into Dierks now.

Ange, I think that Fisher Price makes a pretty tough mp3 player. Bud started with the iPod shuffle, which is a little more rugged because it doesn't have a screen. Now he has a Nano and we use one of those plastic covers that Maggie mentioned.

Bannie, I couldn't be more honored! I hope we can really make it happen someday. But I have to warn you, I'm kind of like the Brad Paisley song: I'm so much cooler online.

And to all of you new Dierks fans: keep your fingers crossed for him tonight! Long Trip Alone is up for Album of the Year at the CMA Awards. He's also appearing as a presenter - though not as a performer, which is puzzling.
