That's not to say that he doesn't have some of the cutest mispronunciations in the world. He does. But they're not autism-related; they are just plain kid.
Like, for instance, sometimes Bud likes to eat kitchen:

And, from time to time, he really likes to eat his kitchen with check-up:

And my favorite.
My very, very favorite.
The one that makes me smile no matter how many times I hear it.
Bud is a big fan of animals. He even likes this one:

Do you recognize this animal?
It's a stunk.
It's a stunk.

Classic kid!
Cheers
He he he, I agree that the mispronounced words are the cutest... I liked the way you posted one photo for each word, I was bracing myself for his version of skunk.
In our family we love when our son calls his uncle Steve "uncle SEED". It's really cute when he says it, all excited and running to the door to greet Steve.
I, too, love the mispronounced words. Articulation has always been a big problem for us, but lately it's progressing into less of a speech delay and more of a typical kid thing. And, I have to admit, I have a hard time correcting the truly adorable misses.
ROFL. Wow, a "stunk." Very appropriate, too!
For years and years, my sister called that a "snuk." I still think of that word when I see the picture (or see one skulking about the bottom of my driveway, as I did a couple of weeks ago).
We had "sgabetti," "Pigget," "Winnie A Poo," "Be-pa" (Grandpa). I miss those days.
Most recently we have the Intendo D S ... but Ry consistently says Atch-ick-ly ("actually" - hyphenated for syllables) I know there are more - but I atchickly can't think of them right now.
To this day I am known as 'Den' - my GodDaughter's pronounciation of Jen - and thus hubby became 'Deve' (Steve). My GodDaughter is 18 now...
The skunk thunk the stump stunk.
The stump thunk the skunk stunk.
The stump and the skunk stunk.
Now...say it faster!
My PDD-nos munchkin has many similar -isms.
My favorite of his mispronunciations is:
Shirt = Sherp
For some reason, no matter how much I try to get him to say it correctly, he just can't get it. But it's cute anyway!
On an unrelated note....
Many years ago, my mom asked my youngest brother to take the corn outside and shuck it. He took the plastic grocery bag out in the back yard and proceeded to walk to the end of our property and hurled it over the fence. My mother, observing this scenario from the kitchen window, asked him when he came back in, "what in the world did you just do with the corn?!" His innocent reply: "I chucked it. Just like you asked, Mom."
We still tease him about it, almost 20 years later.
Girl = squirrel........ or used to, in our house.
Disgusting = Misgusting
Spaghetti = Specky
Fork = F*ck
How I miss those days!
Oh it's so nice to have you back. "Our favorite treat: "Totwit" (chocolate). Where we go to learn: "Stew" (school). And our fave Tubby: "Tinty Winty." Articulation is coming, but these are so endearing.
so cute....my NT daughter does the same thing. an "elevator" is an "alligator" and a granola bar is a "vanilla bar" (unless it has chocolate chips).
Thank you for sharing those, they were a doorbell.
One my favorite learning to talk words was "mint ticker". That was my NT's kids pronunciation of "cement mixer" (the kind of truck). Both of my kids had a thick accent when they were little, up to about 5 years old. They sounded like they were from New York City. A woman who had lived in New York asked me if we had lived there after hearing my ASD kid speak.
Anyway, Bud's kitchen with checkup and the stunk are prize winners.
Love it! He really must be the cutest kid ever (except for mine, of course ;] )
I love Bud.
Most of Ely's words are mispronounced, but I guess my favorite is the name of one of her beloved Little Einsteins:
Quincy = "Whiskey"
That is just too cute!
hey there. i am new to your blog. i am so glad i found it! i have a son on the spectrum who is now eleven years old. i just started a website and was looking for folks to connect with.
my website can be found at: www.theautismexpress.com
you have a wonderful blog here and i would love to link to you!
Adorable!
We've always loved letters and the elephant song was one of our early favorites. A..B..C..D..
That's precious!
Yes, it certainly IS a stunk!
When my brother was a baby, he used to cry that there were camels in the water! (He was looking at clams!)
My daughter used to sing about Rudolph's colleagues: the regulars, Dasher, Dancer, Prancer and Vixen, and the lesser-known Comet, Cuban, Donner and Splitzen.
When my husband went to a conference in California, she left him a note telling him to have fun in Sandy Aigo.
And in our house, when you sit on the couch, it is still good to get comshterbale.
Definitely aa..dhora..bell!!!
meeme, maami, maaaaaaaaa when crying... :)
Oh yeah...my daddy is a big (car)kharr??
My three-year-old son (NT) talks about the credits that are in our garage and how we need to keep them out of the house becaue they make so much noise.
He probably uses that term because his seven-year-old brother (ASD) loves to watch the (actual) credits after a movie or other video.
In our house "vike-a-vul" was a motorcycle and a "lidderdidder" used to be a front loader. Now "carlos" is caramel, "compeller" is a propeller, and "Hybonicle" is the Bionicle line of Legos.
Thanks for helping me remember the endearing parts of having a son on the spectrum.
Once our son said "cut the shrimp" and now we use it.
Like people say when they call in to radio shows, long time reader, first time commenter.
The best one I can think of at the moment is the student I work with, who used to pronounce the letter f as a hard h, as in one, two, three, whore...irteen (since he wasn't saying the th sound either) whoreteen,or the Jerry Springer version of the earlier one.
This made me smile and got me thinking about my own fella's 'isms'. I made my reply on my own blog, with a link back to yours. Must look up how to do 'track backs' properly.
In the meantime, if you'd like to see our little list of 'isms', see
Mothering on the Spectrum
OMG! I saw the pic's of the chicken nuggets and nearly died. Tyson nuggets " the green nuggets" as my hilarious 10yr ADS son says. Sometimes I just order a case from the store. Eats them non stop then 'poof' won't touch for months. God I love these kids!
okay, that boy is BRILLIANT!!!
Yes! My Mia calls skunks "Stunks" too! LOL! And our old neighbors the Loughrys (Lock-rees) were The Broccolis. Our kids do come up with ways to amuse us, don't they? :)
AWESOME!!
